لایسنس Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 4.0 شبیه به CC BY است، اما با این تفاوت که آثار مشتق شده نیز باید تحت همین لایسنس منتشر شوند. این لایسنس مشابه GPL برای محتوا عمل می‌کند.

CC BY-SA علاوه بر ذکر منبع، الزام می‌کند که آثار مشتق شده نیز تحت همین لایسنس منتشر شوند. این ویژگی آن را برای پروژه‌هایی که می‌خواهند آزادی محتوا را حفظ کنند، ایده‌آل می‌کند.
